Where do I begin? This is a mammoth task, but hopefully a rewarding one. Rather than collecting dust in a dark corner, the idea is to share
these photographs and recordings with anyone interested in the Railways of Britain.
Please click on an image for a larger view, and control click on the sound icon for the sound and the picture.
Some of the picture and sound files are rather large, so please be patient while they load.
The railway photographs within these pages fall loosely into four groups.
1960's, Black and White, taken by Alan Robinson and John Ashley covering the last years of British Railways Steam.
1970's and early 1980's, taken by myself mostly on 35mm covering the early preservation years.
Preserved Steam, late 1980's to the present day, when I concentrated on medium format, covering the expanding preservation scene.
The sound recordings, date from 1980 and have been made throughout the country, from Dover to Pembroke Dock and Penzance to Thurso,
and most areas in between. Wherever possible the sound clip is a recording of the actual photograph it links to, although in the few cases where
a shot was not available I have substituted an apropriate one.
Railway Structures, is a collection of shots of the steam age infastructure. From stations long closed and forgotten to those surviving in a
variety of new uses. These include colour slides taken by Alan Robinson in the 1970's, with many, of long demolished Steam sheds.
No Steam Today, is a diverse collection of non railway photographs, including some now rather unique late 1970's Motor racing shots.
This is obviously a very long term project, and the sound recordings in particular are very time consuming to edit and upload, but I intend to try
and keep the site fresh and interesting, so any constructive comments will be most welcome,
Chris Jennings
